SIIS Hosts Dialogue with Polish President Andrzej Duda and MoU Signing Ceremony with OSW

On the afternoon of June 26, 2024, President Andrzej Duda of the Republic of Poland visited the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and participated in a dialogue with Chinese experts and scholars. President Duda's visit to China was made at the invitation of President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China. SIIS President Chen Dongxiao warmly welcomed the Polish delegation and introduced the development history of SIIS, along with its academic research and international exchange activities. Accompanying President Duda were the Ambassador of Poland to China, Jakub Kumoch; Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Małgorzata Paprocka; Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the President, Mieszko Pawlak; Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jacek Czerniak; Presidential Advisors Rafał Kos and Wojciech Gerwel; Director of the International Policy Office, Marcin Łapczyński; Director of the Asia-Pacific Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wojciech Zajączkowski; Consul General of Poland in Shanghai, Magdalena Żukowska, etc.
During the dialogue, President Duda and the Chinese experts engaged in frank and in-depth discussions on current global and regional issues, as well as China-Polish bilateral relations.
The SIIS scholars participating in the dialogue included Yang Jiemian, Chairman of the Academic Advisory Council; Li Kaisheng, Vice President; Wu Chunsi, Director of the Institute for International Strategic and Security Studies; Zhang Yinghong, Director of the Center for European Studies; Zhao Long, Deputy Director of the Institute for Global Governance Studies; Long Jing, Deputy Director of the Center for European Studies; and researchers from various institutes. Other experts included Cui Hongjian, Director of the Center for European Union and Regional Development Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University; Jiang Feng, Professor of European Studies and Chairman of the Board at the Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies; Lv Peiming, Executive Vice President of Tongji University; Wang Chong, Senior Fellow at Charhar Institute and Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang International Studies University; and Wu Ting, Editorial Board Member at The Paper.
The Chinese Ambassador to Poland, Sun Linjiang, and the Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Ye Liang, also accompanied the delegation. Some young researchers from SIIS attended the dialogue as well.
Following the dialogue, in the presence of President Duda, Ambassador Sun Linjiang, and State Secretary Małgorzata Paprocka, SIIS and OSW - Centre for Eastern Studies signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU aims to foster academic exchanges and collaborative research between the two institutions in various fields.
