Delegation of Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation Visits SIIS

On June 20, 2024, Mr. Frank Jannuzi, President and CEO of Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, led a delegation to the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. The delegation had Roundtable discussions with SIIS scholars.
SIIS President Prof. Chen Dongxiao and Mr. Frank Jannuzi delivered the opening and closing remarks. Prof. Chen Dongxiao welcomed the delegation and introduced the efforts made by SIIS in recent years to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States. He pointed out that China-U.S. relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world, and Southeast Asia is a very important region for both China and the U.S.. At present, the world has entered a period of turbulence and change, and it is of great significance to enhance communication and exchanges among countries. Mr. Frank Jannuzi introduced the history and goals of Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, saying that the geographical location and strategic position of Asia cannot be ignored, and that the foundation's mission is to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the U.S. and Asian countries, including China. Scholars also exchanged views on China-U.S. relations, competition and cooperation between China and the U.S. in Southeast Asia, and other international issues.
The Roundtable was moderated by Dr. Shao Yuqun, Director of the Institute for Taiwan, Hongkong & Macao Studies. Delegation members also included Dr. Benjamin Goldberg, Senior Foreign Affairs Analyst of U.S. State Department, Dr. Kimberley Thomas, Assistant Professor and Graduate Chair in the Department of Geography and Urban Studies in Temple University, Dr. Trinh Duc Duy, Data and Statistical Specialist of Princeton University, Dr. Timothy Webster, Professor of Western New England University, Dr. Kristin Vekasi, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and School of Policy and International Affairs in University of Maine, Dr. Nhu Truong, Faculty member of Department of Asian Languages in University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Dr. Ivan Rasmussen, Associate Professor of Practice in Political Science in New York University Shanghai.
Other speakers at the Roundtable included Dr. Wang Zhongmei, Director of the Institute for World Economy Studies, Dr. Zhou Shixin, Senior Research Fellow of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, and Dr. Li Yanliang, Research Fellow of the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies. Dr. Xue Lei, Research Fellow of Institute for World Economy Studies and Dr. Su Liuqiang, Research Fellow of Institute for International Strategic and Security Studies also participated in the discussion.
